On December 10, 2019, a warm and sunny day in the cold winter of Shenzhen, which was both special and ordinary, marked the official launch of Shennan e-Sourcing after a period of six months.

As usual, my project colleagues quickly passed through the security booth and rushed off to attend the mobilization meeting for the official launch of Shennan e-Sourcing, which began at 9 o’clock.

I was left outside the door by the handsome and polite security guard who always adhered to principles. He carefully checked and registered my identification documents. Not wanting to be late, I couldn’t help but urge the security guard to hurry up. The security guard raised his head from the computer where he was looking up the records of the documents and asked me, “Are you visiting here for the first time?”

I can’t figure out how many times it has happened. It should be over a hundred times by now. It’s been over ten years since I first met Shen Nan. Shen Nan started out as my supplier and then became my client. Feng Zhi began by buying PCBs, then became a consulting advisor and a tutor, and now is guiding Shen Nan’s digital transformation. Along the way, I have made many friends from Shen Nan and I like this dynamic and distinctive state-owned enterprise.

The mobilization meeting began punctually at 9 o’clock. The large conference room was filled with people, including those from the client project team, PE, PMC, quality and procurement departments. The first sentence said by Bruce, the project manager of Shennan e-Sourcing, was: “It’s a great honor for me to invite Mr. Liu to attend this mobilization meeting today…”

Mr. Liu, that is Liu Yu. Everyone affectionately calls him Yu Brother. The first time I met Yu Brother was over a decade ago in our office in Suzhou. At that time, he was a young man with great ambition after graduating from Zhejiang University. The image of Yu Brother back then is still vivid in my mind. Today, Yu Brother has gray hair and his face is etched with the signs of time. Perhaps every step of the growth of Shenzhen Nan Electric Assembly has Yu Brother’s unwavering companionship.

What I cannot fail to mention is Bell. Twenty years have passed, but time has left no trace. Bell still looks like the sunny and carefree big boy. No matter how great the pressure is, it’s nothing to Bell. I have never seen Bell looking worried. He always manages to achieve the goals of his work. Bell is undoubtedly the best salesperson I have ever met.

Our project manager Bruce was first met by us in our procurement consulting project ten years ago. At that time, he was a diligent young component purchasing engineer. Now Bruce has become a father of two children and the leader of a purchasing team of over 40 people. This e-Sourcing project led by Bruce is an efficient and productive one.

We got to know Zhenjun, the main force in our project’s procurement. He was also the person in charge of the procurement consulting project ten years ago. At that time, he had just graduated from university. Now, Zhenjun has become the procurement supervisor and has provided us with a lot of business assistance in the project.

Occasionally, when I would visit the building on Shennan Road, during those days when I was receiving guidance on procurement projects, the building would always pick me up at the port, regardless of the weather. Whenever I saw him, I always felt extremely close and affectionate.

In this e-Sourcing project, I would also like to express my gratitude to all those who actively participated and devoted their time and efforts. They include PM Vincent, SQE Qingfa, Manager Chen, Purchaser Chen Lan, PE Gao Ping, Mingmei; PMC Xiao Gong, IMS Deng Jiao, as well as Manager Xiang who provided a lot of support and good IT suggestions. Each of you has left a deep impression on me. I am very grateful for your support in the e-Sourcing requirement analysis and launch.

Liu Yu said that he has been thinking about launching the e-Sourcing project for two years. Thanks to the efforts of ESiC team and Shennan project team, our Shennan Electric Assembly’s e-Sourcing project has been successfully launched as planned. Shennan will enhance intelligent manufacturing in software and hardware next year. e-Sourcing is undoubtedly an important component of the software. I believe and look forward to Shennan’s procurement to do better and reach a new level.

On behalf of ESiC, I would also like to express our gratitude to the team of Shennan Project for their six-month arduous efforts. Our joint efforts have enabled us to successfully complete the launch plan. We have a deep affection for Shennan and hope to bring the concept and best practices of focusing on excellent procurement over the past years to Shennan and implement them into the daily procurement work.

Today’s products are becoming increasingly integrated, with shorter delivery times, shorter life cycles, better quality and lower prices; these trends have made the procurement work more efficient and strategy-oriented and process-driven.

I hope that the e-Sourcing system that my colleagues and I have been working hard on can help Shenzhen Nan achieve excellent procurement management. It is our constant pursuit and source of achievements to help our procurement colleagues improve efficiency and enhance value.

Finally, Sophia, the product team manager of ESiC, introduced the entire project process, milestones, system overview and the training arrangements for the launch to the Shennan project.
