Success Story - BioRay

“At the beginning of this year, in the face of the complex political and economic environment of domestic and foreign epidemics, the war between Ukraine and Russia and international trade, and in order to improve the professional skills of procurement personnel and build a more resilient supply chain, Borui Bio and Fengzhi Technology signed a procurement strategic guidance project. In the 8-month project implementation process, Jenny, Lisa and Roya teachers of the Feng team worked tirelessly to guide, so that our purchasers of Borui slowly formed a complete set of logical rigorous, comprehensive coverage, profound and simple procurement business management logic.


ESiC teachers can always expand our thinking, share procurement cases, teach us from procurement strategy formulation to category management TQCDM demand model establishment, supplier performance management system and QBR system in supplier management, cost management and risk management and other strategic management measures, organize the core procurement process, and implement the implementation plan according to the established process. Realize procurement value to enhance the competitiveness of the company.

The first time I came to Borui was in June this year. On a hot summer night, Jenny and I sat in a taxi and described in my mind the small town of Fuyang Xukou, which was highly recommended by Jenny. She said there was fresh air and quiet and peaceful. When my feet really stepped on this land, looking at the distant moonlight silhousilhoues of the mountains, I imagined the scenery and reality actually really overlapped, that was the first time I came to the beautiful town of Xukou, the factory of Borui biology is located in this town.

Zhejiang Borui Biopharmaceutical Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “BioRay”) is an innovative biopharmaceutical enterprise with all-round R&D, production and commercialization capabilities. The company focuses on the field of immunization, auto-immunity to cooperate with the full coverage of departments as the layout of the main line, tumor immunity to cell type coverage as the target layout of the main line, can provide patients with a comprehensive and diverse product portfolio and solutions. The company has an industry-leading large-scale production capacity of biologic drugs and an excellent quality management system, a full-cycle research and development capability from drug candidate screening to clinical development, and a nationwide commercialization platform. The company has 20+ main products in research, of which 10+ have entered clinical and 4 have been commercialized. At present, the company has more than 1400 employees around the world, distributed in Taizhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai and San Diego, USA, and is committed to becoming a leading technology, excellent quality and widely trusted biopharmaceutical company.

The procurement consulting project between Borui Bio and ESiC Technology began in April this year and lasted for eight months. In this beautiful town, the Fengzhi team had the opportunity to witness the spring, summer and autumn rain of BioRay. In this procurement project, CAI Xiuyun, the supply chain director of Bo Rui, participated in the whole process with the procurement team without missing a lesson. Together with the team, we analyzed the data of thousands of materials, nearly 100 categories and multiple suppliers, from the project initiation, sorting out the category management strategy, supplier relationship and development, core procurement process, procurement management mechanism and procurement skills training. By the end of November, we can proudly say that the project has been a success and, more importantly, that a solid foundation has been laid for the implementation of the digital SRM system.

 

At the celebration banquet, Ms. CAI was moved to thank the teachers for their efforts and energy during the project, so that she truly received how procurement is connected with the company’s vision and goals. We were impressed by Mr. CAI’s modesty and eagerness to learn at his high position, and the extra time the procurement team spent in their busy daily work to sort out the procurement strategy. Hai Bin always said, “Eager students and serious teachers will form a virtuous circle, students are eager, teachers will be more serious, and more serious teachers will inspire students to work harder.” Indeed, throughout the project, I could feel this positive interaction at times, with the eager “students” and the conscientious teachers pushing each other and repeating the cycle.

In the project, I was mainly responsible for data analysis and supported various reports and data output in the BioRay Tutoring project. I was very gratified. Although it took a lot of time to collect and organize data, these data were indispensable for analyzing key procurement business and building procurement strategy. Thanks to all kinds of help provided by our partners in purchasing data, we not only learned practical skills of data analysis from each other, but also built a basic material price and supplier database, so that in the future, our partners will no longer spend a lot of precious time in the face of scattered procurement information, and these data will soon enter the SRM system. Making the accumulation of data sustainable.

“There’s nothing new under the sun, we just need constant reminders.” I admire those procurement ideas that Jenny has repeatedly repeated in the tutoring, as well as the depth and details of the business that we can go to in the tutoring: procurement objectives and category supplier strategies from the top level; Detailed to every supply capacity indicator and process step. We go all out to enshrine these ideas and procurement tools in the hearts of our teams.

Our project ends in the fall. CAI said that autumn is the most beautiful season in BioRay, and I would like to believe that this is a good omen. The autumn rain soaked the BioRay factory does not dye dust, the ginkgo biloba on both sides of the main road rises straight into the clouds, and the rolling Shiniu Mountain is looming in the water mist. CAI, Jenny and I strolled among them after lunch, and at that moment we were very relaxed and leisurely. After a few months of getting along, we are more like partners moving forward side by side. Jenny said that although the project is over, the team of ESiC will always be there and always support BioRay. We also believe that BioRay will make good use of the procurement strategic planning this weapon, constantly adjust and iterate their own procurement strategic planning, and polish the procurement team more and more professional.

When I was still in Fuyang, I received a phone call from the local epidemic prevention center, who told me: “Your report for Hangzhou is not accurate enough, I hope you will be rich next time, you should do the following…” My ears are listening, but my thoughts have drifted away, the procurement consulting project is over, when will it be the next time? The SRM digitization project between ESiC and BioRay is starting, and I will soon start a new journey with our implementation team.
